It was fun to dress up, but now the Bleuettes have returned to comfortable clothes.
They are wearing print and check versions of the pre-catalog school smock/dress which was offered for sale in 1906 at the G-L offices. It was advertised in La Semaine de Suzette. The school smock was made in a dark color which would not show ink stains.
At the same time, 1906, a pattern for a school smock with embroidery was offered to the Suzettes to sew for Bleuette. Again, a dark color was recommended.
In 1927 this pattern for a school smock/dress was published in La Semaine de Suzette. Lighter colors were now possible since pencils were used in school rather than pens. This one had short sleeves, no waist, and an inset panel of pleats. The school bag pattern was published in the following issue.
By the 1930s the G-L catalog school smock would be made of gingham and have a natural waist, but the yoke and the long sleeves with cuffs made a come-back. This school smock continued to be sold into the 1950s.
